How much would all that cost and what website could I use to learn how to use it. Do I also need a tablet, because I heard those helped a lot in digital work... sorry for all the questions but I made a new years resolution to try and get my artwork in computer CG, or whatever it is called. I have always been a traditional artist and a little bit behind the times with technology, so this is all new to me. Any help would be great and thank you for your time.
Well Photoshop is the hefty one in the price. I currently go to an Art Institute so I was able to get Photoshop completely free for myself. Currently Photoshop CS3 runs for about $500 for windows, and $600 for macs. But in my opinion you could get Photoshop 7. It would work just fine for editing and will be much easier to get your hands on.
Open Canvas is a little more tricky. Open Canvas is currently only meant for use in Japan or something I think and you have to buy a translated version online. I got my version from a friend, I could probably hook you up if you would really be interested.
A tablet would definitely be very useful for drawing/painting on the computer, I can't see a better way to do it. I use a Wacom tablet. They're easy to get and can be more reasonable in price. For starting off I would suggest you use this tablet:

The one priced at $99 is the most efficient one for use and will get the job done for anything you plan to do.
I hope this helped out a little. If you have any more questions I'd be more than happy to help you
OMG! That helped me out so much. I already have photoshop 7 and I would pay you for an open canvas version if you would like. I also think that tablet you gave me the link to will work fine with what I want to do. I just hope I can keep up on all the technology. Some of it just seems way out there. Thanks again.
Nah you don't have to pay, I didn't have to pay for it either. I'll get you a download set up somewhere and send you a private link to it haha. So yeah I'll get working on that soon
